Often when I'm trying to be an active listener I hear a key idea that sparks a question, response, or insight. I have a massive urge to let it out, but I don't. Instead, I try to continue listening while keeping my idea at the forefront of my mind. Often it's a losing proposition. I stop hearing them, and focus on my thought. I am good at faking that I've been listening to all of their speech when really I've been waiting to say what their thought provoked in me. It's a habit I've tried to get away from. I've had some success when I let go of my idea or question, and don't worry if I forget what I want to say. I try to deeply understand the full breadth of their thought.
