Velmost - student project

Hi everyone!

I´m Alejandro, a graphic designer an illustrator from Medellín- Colombia.

10 months ago, I launched my side project, it´s about a clothing brand called Velmost,  inspired by the sea, the illustration and lettering. Here I have many roles, I do illustration, lettering, fashion design and art direction. My friends and family also help me with the videos and photography, and even with packaging and distributing.

Velmost is a project based on the dreams that we all have but are afraid to follow. We're here not just to make t-shirts but to bring about a new way to see life.

Our manifesto is "Going Nowhere Fast": we are here to make things that makes us happy, and follow our dreams, despite the economic fact. We want to inspire people.

The following images are from my Winter 2012 collection.

Also, I´ve been doing a series of videos to inspire people to follow their dreams, It´s a side project called Velmost profiles, I think this helps me to explain the whole concept of the brand:

The project with this Class:

Here´s the packaging and the tag, which I want to redesign:

As you can see, the actual tag and size tag is very simple, so I would like to make a new tag/label With more lettering experimentation, for my summer collection which I will drop in 2 months, so I don´t have too much time.

The new collection is more surfer-inspired, with a vintage look and a lot of lettering.

Sorry if I didn´t write down all the sources and designers. I visited some pages such as: , and

Well, as I said, I´m looking to design a tag full of lettering! So...I´ll start sketching some ideas!
Jon Contino´s first videos were awesome! I´ve got a lot of inspiration from him, so...I´m going to enjoy this class too much!

If you see my personal portfolio, you´ll see a very different kind of work, It´s more artistic, but I can see that Velmost and my artistic work have a lot of common: including the sea and the message and stories.

Hands on work!

UPDATE , 26/5/12

After watching Jon´s class, I started two sketch a size tag, but I noticed that my brand´s anniversary is very soon, So I decided to sketch a poster for this event.

Sketches are very basic, I´ll start to work on a better line soon, so you can really see the advance.

Size tag:

The collection is called "Waves", it´s a surf inspired graphic with typography and illustration, at the bottom you can see a palm tree, a beach and the sea.

I would really appreciate if you tell me your thoughts! Any comment is welcome!

UPDATE, June 3rd:

So, I started to make the tag, here is the process and the final result:

Adding some texture for vintage effect:

After thinking for a while, I decided that the tag had too many elements, specially for using on girls tees, so I cleaned it up, here are the results:

I´m going to screen-print it in some tees to see how it looks! Please tell me your thoughts,

Just finished the label/poster for my brand´s birthday, here´s the result.

I decided to add some brushes to get into the vintage feeling.
