UtopiaFest Music Festival Grounds Map

Background

I was recently offered an internship with UtopiaFest, a Fall music festival in Utopia, Texas. It's a very small and unique festival and this year will be our 5th annual. I attended the festival last year and I am thrilled to be apart of making it happen this year.

I'm from Amarillo, Texas (northwest panhandle) and I've lived in Dallas, although I currently reside in Austin. I have traveled just about all over the state - minus the far west / Big Bend region, which hopefully I can make a trip out to soon - but Utopia, Texas is easily one of the most beautiful, hidden gems in the central Texas hill country. What other way to represent this festival and all the natural beauty that surrounds it, then by making a map? I'm thrilled to start brainstoriming ideas for this project.

Direction

The problem I see with a lot of festival maps out there is they're not as beautiful to look at as they are informative. I would really like this map to not only be accurate and informative for the people that are at the festival, but I would also like it to be a piece of art and one that people would love to hang on their walls. I also plan to illustrate how beautiful this part of Texas is for those who have never been out there.

Why am I making this map? For fun? A client? a gift? To showcase my favorite places? Etc.

Mainly for fun, but for the festival.

Why am I the expert to create this map?

Not sure about expert, but I am the graphic designer for the festival.

Who is my target audience?

Any past or future attendees of UtopiaFest.

What level of detail do I need to include? (Names, addresses, contact info, street names, website, hours, descriptions, color coding etc.).

  • country road names
  • RV, car, and tent camping areas
  • stages
  • general info : restrooms, showers, medical tent, etc.
  • vendors
  • disc golf course
  • hiking trails
  • swimming hole(s) that are on the property
  • content that shows where Utopia is in reference to the rest of the state of Texas
  • maybe directions? I don't want it to be over informative

Do I want my final project to be printed or digital? How is it going to be used/ held? What other constraints do I need to keep in mind moving forward? (Note: type can be smaller on printed maps than when viewed on web).

Probably digital.

“Dear classmates, I need your help/expertise/guidance on how to.....”

I'll gladly accept and appreciate any guidence or feedback that any of you would like to offer. And thank you in advance!
