Tyrion Table Wine Label

Tyrion Table Wine Label - student project

Hey Guys!

My name is Lauren Fundora and I am super pumped to share my project with you. Instead of creating a label for an existing product, I thought this was a great opportunity to flex my conceptual brain muscles and make up a product and a label. When I was brainstorming all my ideas kept leading me back to things inspired by film or TV. I thought about doing a label for Thor's Hammer, Superman's Hair Gel, even a label for Benny the Jet Rodriguez's shoes....it was a tough decision but I settled on a wine label for Tyrion Lannister from Games of Thrones.

As a character Tyrion is completely intriguing and the world and history of GOT is so vast that there is great reference to be inspired by.

Making these mood boards helped me realize that I want to create a label that feels like old world GOT but could live in today's world.

Initial Sketches:

* These sketches were scanned in and then brought into photoshop. I cleaned them up and used levels to take the grays out and punch up the blacks. I also erased some bits to get my mind thinking about how distress and texture could add to these treatments.

Refining Sketches - Round 2:

After my initial sketches, I went back to the drawing board to try and explore a different feel. My first 2 sketches were not grasping at the vibe I had in my head. The discovery stage of any project can be the most revealing and rewarding part, so I started with some thumbnails bits and I even experimetned with some pen and ink on watercolor paper. Then I picked some selects and cleaned them up in photoshop and started to put the labels in context of the bottle.

The Wine Bottle:

I had a couple ideas about the kind of bottle I wanted to use and how the label would interact with it. I think the shorter neck bottle felt right immediately becasue of the tone it sets when you look at it and because it parallels Tyrions physicality in a great metaphoric way. Also, it has a more historical/heritage feeling to it. The label placement and printing method is still up for debate? I like the idea of a tag that hangs from the handle, maybe a simple wax seal? They love lose wax seals on GOT.  The latest sketches address a label that would be printed directly on to the glass of the bottle or painted by hand.

The above sketch is my favorite so far. I think it's the one that I'm going to develop. I'm still working in grayscale because I haven't been ready to think about color but I think I might keep it simple.

More progress to come this weekend!
