Turn your Ink art into a digital repeat pattern CLASS IS UP

My class is up! Go check it out

Class description

In this class we will create a colorful digital pattern using your ink doodles and sketches.

With each video tutorial we will cover the steps of the print design process, including:

  • Coming up with an idea.
  • Sketching out the motifs.
  • Inking your drawings.
  • Digitizing your ink art.
  • Transforming your scanned art into a digital pattern.

I will be showing you my work process, so by the end of the class you will have all the tools to create your own original patterns.

Class Outline

Class project

In this class we will create a colorful digital pattern from your ink doodles and sketches.

When you're ready, begin uploading your process and final pattern to the student project gallery. A complete student project should include:

  • Your idea
  • Your process sketches
  • Your ink art
  • A final pattern

You can start a project and upload as you go through the process. No need to wait until the patterns is complete, you can start your project as soon as you have an idea, nothing like seeing your progress as you go through the class.

Below are a few of the tools that will be essential or helpful in this course.

  • Paper (printer paper is just fine!)
  • Pencil
  • Black ink of your choice. This can include pens, india ink, brushes, markers, sharpies...
  • Lightbox or window. If you don't have these things- you can use tracing paper to make ink versions of your pencil sketches.
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Scanner or camera/ smartphone
