Tui Folk Art Design

Tui Folk Art Design - student project

Another awesome class! Your resources are generous as always. I've learnt so many Procreate tips with this fun project. Styling using the folk art style and using the assisted layers was a revelation! I also loved playing around with different colour combos. Thanks Liz!

I wanted to illustrate a design using local New Zealand birds and flowers. I choose the Tui, they have the most beautiful song and zip in and out of the trees around our home.

The photo (bottom right) was taken from my back deck, you can see the shape of the Kauri Leaves. which I used as a boarder. The tea trees aren't in flower, but when they are, we have gorgeous clusters of Manuka flowers, so I've put those in too. And last but on least, the Pohutukawa tree with its crimson flowers. There are not many 'folk art' looking flowers here in NZ, so I've enjoyed the process of stylizing them... and making them work with the mirroring effect.
