Tribute to my Grandma

e405b2df

I had a lot of fun with this class because it was all about not thinking too much and just having fun, which are some things I have to remind myself to do from time to time.

This crest is dedicated to my Grandma on my Mom's side. She raised me ever since I was two years old and has been the rock of our entire family. Even though she passed away almost seven years ago, she's still the glue that keeps our family together.

She's Filipina, born in Honolulu, Hawaii, so instead of laurel leaves, I did coconut tree leaves. She was super famous among our family and friends for her cooking, especially Lumpia (Filipino eggrolls) and Pancit (which I didn't draw because I had a hard time trying to draw noodles, lol) and she is the most talented crocheter I know. I also added a few of phrases she always said, which are "Ay nako!" which is like, "OMG" or "Geez" and "Susmaryosep!" which is another exclamation of disbelief, frustration or suprise in Tagalog/Ilokano (it's just a blend of Jesus, Mary and Joseph). And last but not least, her most spoken phrase of all, "Mangan Tayon!" which means "Let's eat!"

I stuck with colors from the flag of the Philippines but I will probably come back and play with the color scheme more at a later time.

Huge thumbs up for the class Aaron, btw! You're hilarious!
