Trees - student project

Trees are something I really struggle with. My left brain tries to take over whenever I try painting trees, so I end up with foliage that looks way too symmetrical and perfect, versus organic and messy. The photo shows the best I was able to manage while doing this class. The example in the middle of the top row shows my first attempt at the tree with clumps of foliage. It came out half decent, but I decided to try again anyway. The example at the bottom right shows my second attempt.  Notice how the clumps of foliage are way too evenly spaced. I didn't bother painting a trunk.
