Toro y Moi

Toro y Moi
I've been on a Toro y Moi bender as of late. I recently saw them in concert, so I've decided to make a poster for this previous gig. I would describe the music as melodic, rhythmic, lush, and mad chill. I hope to maintain that feel for the poster.

Discography (updated 2/17)
I probably should've posted this before making my sketches. Prior to Toro y Moi, Chaz studied graphic design at the University of South Carolina. There's a lot of contemporary design in the art direction of his albums.

Concert Presence (2/17)
Although Chaz tours with a band, he's clearly front-and-center and receives all the attention. I suppose to jazz up the live shows, they utilize a combination of smoke machines and seizure inducing strobe lights. It also looks like the have window blinds in the background; perhaps to make it look they're playing out of a bedroom? Either way, all this comes together nicely with the sound and vibe of the band's music.

Sketches (2/13)
Not quite sure what I want to do as far as imagery. I was thinking about doing something with a bull and a matador (the Spanish words toro and y (the "bull" and "and") and the French word moi ("me")). It might be too straight forward. However, I've yet to see a poster design that emphasizes the literal translation of the band's name.

I'll probably just focus on nailing the appropriate typographic elements before settling on final imagery.

Drafted Sketch (2/18)
I went with the bull and the matador. I think it's kinda funny. I'll probably ditch the sunset-blinds since it's a direct bite from this (I was curious and couldn't resist. It does go well with their live setup though...). I'm debating if I want the color palette to be vibrant or mellow; it needs to match the beach scenery.
