Tools of the Trade: The Creative Sequence

Hello there,

I really enjoyed this project! It took me about 2 hours from start to finish and I learned a few new skills (I LOVE CLIPPING MASKS!).

I decided to study my creative sequence as a children's book writer and illustrator.

1. You get an idea
2. You communicate the idea and discuss it with yourself and others
3. You start writing and sketching
4. You paint/colour in your images
5. Voila! Your work is ready

Ps. In my original sketch a glass of wine was one of my tools, but I decided against using it. It was supposed to show how you digest your idea over time ;)

1. S K E T C H

My sketch was very rough and quick, but worked perfectly as a guide when creating the images in Photoshop.

2. I N K   M A R K S

I really enjoyed this process. Love changing the colour of the textures, overlaying them, experiment with scale etc.

3. T H E   F I N A L   O U T C O M E

So here is a very simplified visualisation of my creative process. As I said, I did this very quickly, which was very good for me - since I tend to spend too much time on tiny details... I decided to just jump in, not be precious and learn!

Many thanks Tom,

I highly recommend this class!
