UPDATE: 2/9 PEN TOOL working on some color variations now.. It's hard to decide what direction I want to go. I know I want muted, ice cream colors, but I'm not sure if I'm playing this too safe. That said, I have created two versions using a similar color scheme.

UPDATE: 2/8 REVISION
I want the icecream, spoon and text to be the main focus. I thought it might add some visual interest to include a couple more frozen treats in the foreground/background. Thanks for the feedback so far!

MY INKY VALENTINE : WORKSHOP 2/3

Hi, class! Sorry for the delay on my project, I had to play catch up today.

BRAINSTORM & MOODBOARD

At first, I thought of a generic valentine's day theme, but then I decided that I should make it special for the person I intend to give it to - my husband. He LOOOVES ice cream & coffee.

But, he loves ice cream more. With that said, I decide to go with an Ice Cream Valentine.

Muted & Sweet.

Here are some rough thumbnails...

He loves Pralines and Cream, he loves brownies with ice cream, and he enjoys a good pun.

I will keep refining the idea with more thumbnails for later this week. I'm enjoying everyone's ideas so far, hope you all have a great project!

_______________________________________________________________________________________

I admire inked hand drawn details. I am looking forward to this class.

My name is Alex. I work fulltime for a commerical interior designer, so my drawings tend to lack that charming loose appeal. I hope to work on achieving some illustrative balance during this project.

In my downtime, I work freelance in graphic and web design. Lettering has become a major part of my work and I am gravitating more towards this outlet. I'd like to create a piece that is exclusive to my lettering work.

TOOLS of the Trade:

  • Design & Lettering Books
  • Pages of practice strokes & piles of sketches
  • Computer & Tablet
  • Ink
  • Brushes
  • Brush Pens
  • Pencils
  • Chalk
  • Erasers

In addition to tools, I would like to incorporate handlettered elements:

  • Initials
  • Various Lettering Styles

As my thumbnails progressed, I tried to refine my tools - incorporating the key elements of my workspace. I will create my full sized sketch next. Personally, I prefer the "minimal" and "simplified" layouts.

Any feedback is welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's project!

Tom, thank you for taking the time to create a detailed, easy-to-follow class. I really enjoyed this project, and I hope to use these methods more in the future.

Thanks for checking out my project! Feedback is always appreciated.
