Visual Storytelling with Final Cut Pro X — Second Edition

Tommy, this is pretty excellent. I really enjoyed the music choice you went with and the consistent visual effects you used to separate the interviews from the B-roll is a great way to create distinctions. The Super 8 effect also added a nice bit of noise that gave everything a more organic feel and your slow motion effects were used well and within reason. Great work!

I think this is one of the most visually (with the effects) interesting projects posted thus far!

I think I'm trying to just let the story make itself, My idea is to just tell the story pretty straight try and make the footage look as good as possible without being distractingly over stylized. A few different thoughts from each of the artists and some B-roll and a soundtrack.

I struggled a bit with the audio, for some reason I found it hard to use the range selection tool to lower the audio in certain places, it just seemed difficult to use, I would try and lower the audio within the selected range, and the audio for the whole track would lower.  Or the my selection would not stay selected. I had to do most of the audio by manually plugging in key frames.

I like using lots'of effects.  A little from this and that on top of each other. I used a warm Super 8 for the interviews. The artists were pretty friendly and the warmer tones are more inviting. 

Customizing titles seemed a bit hard, but maybe I just wasn't super fond of FCP's title templates. I think if they were easier to customize, they would be more useful. I think that is what Motion is? Is that an entirely separate program and do we cover it in this class?

 Using key commands to paste attributes was pretty helpful. I had forgotten about secondary storylines which I think will be very handy in larger projects.



 I just watched on Vimeo, at the end I use the "glory" effect on one of the sculptures. I faded this in, and had it on only slightly to give a glowing effect. However when it uploaded to vimeo it looks like it's on full blast. 

This looks great, Tommy. Nice establishing shots up front let the viewer know what they're about to hear/see. The theme of how everyone got started is a great place to jump off from, too.

The popping at the edit points is definitely something we'll address as well. Some sounds like the wind noise are also things we'll look into minimizing.

Thanks. I'm guessing the popping sound at the cuts is from the cam audio and we will learn about this later. I saw it in other videos as well.


Well, I guess I should've paid better attention to exporting and sharing, because the only thing in the last video was the compound clip of the final, not the first assignment and two titles. New one is here

Here is the latest and final assignment. For this I just expanded on last weeks story, tweaked my color a &nbsp;lil more, and tried to just showcase the ice without going overboard on the effects. The music is just a pleasant instrumental. I used the day to night timelapse to transition to the bonfire scene. &nbsp;For the bonfire scene I just made put together some slow motion clips I felt went along with the tune.&nbsp;
