Katie Jarman

This is the first project step for the Pattern to Portfolio challenge!

I did my inital sketches in Photoshop, using a Wacom tablet. I wanted to work on the movement & flow of the pattern from the get-go, since that's one of my stumbling blocks with pattern design!

I then brought it into Illustrator & live traced my initial images, and got started on creating a pattern.

Here's what I finally ended up with! It took a lot of tweaking to get to this point, and to not make it look too repetative. That's not what I'm going for.

I also played around with some additional color schemes. Here's one of my favorites, it's much brighter & is less traditional.

Here are some mockups for my final color scheme. It's a fun & more stylized pattern, so I see it working on mainly childrenswear or bedding, maybe a notebook.

Thanks for the challenge Bonnie! I'm excited to finish up the next step. :)
