Three Little Pigs Upgrade

2-24-16  Just getting started.  Notes on the creative brief and a little research into creative briefs in general before writing. First Skillshare class and trying to navigate how best to proceed :)

Lisa,

Thank you so much for this opportunity!  I have just found your work recently and am totally inspired by your story, your work and your process!

Here is the email- I am happy to take any and all suggestions.  I tend to write like I talk, excited and with my hands.  I do have questions that I did not include, thinking that they might be common knowledge or perhaps not something you would ask the Art Director: Copyright of work, size of roughs, size of final work (does the description of 6 x 7 indicate that my work is 6 x 7 or will it be reduced to 6 x7?)

I know very little of the illustration world and am eager to learn.  Thank you for your time and your patience.

Best,

Sara Lee

1. Email to Art Director

Dear Ms. Simms,

Thank you so much for your email and for considering my work for an updated spin on a time honored story. I am available and very interested in working with you and Swanky Publishing. I would however, like to put forth a few questions for clarification before final acceptance.

Could you go into further detail about Phase 2. the interior illustrations; the timeline,  amount of illustrations required and compensation?

Could you reference your take on modern, perhaps a look or trend that might give a clue to what version of “modern” you are after. (My first instinct is to place the pigs in an urban environment with a focus on the different architecture of each house).

The brief suggests bold colors. Is there a preference of materials and color palette used?

Lastly, what form would you like to receive the rough sketches in?

Thank you for your time in answering these questions. I am excited about the opportunity to create a contemporary look for these three famous pigs and the wolf! I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Sara Lee Hughes

2. Roughs

Dear Ms. Simms,

Thank you so much for answering my questions.  I have completed two roughs as stated in the project description.

In both roughs I chose to take the pigs out of their traditional "forest environment" and place them in more modern circumstances.  Thank you for allowing me follow my first instincts on what modern could mean.  I look forward to your feedback!

Best,

Sara Lee Hughes

Lisa,

Thank you!  This was a great introduction and chock full of helpful information.  The videos were super clear and well organized.  This was my first class on Skill Share, I am a big fan and can't wait to take another class.  I hope that you will be posting other classes on illustration in the future.  Perhaps a class with an editorial project?  Thank you for your insight and your inspiration!

Sincerely,

Sara Lee
