Three By Two Fitness: Operation Tiberius

I have never been fit, or healthy, or anything like that. I have always hated exercise, sport, and the people that espoused the virtue of those things. I still think that there is a lot to be improved with the culture of fitness, but I also think that Fitocracy is a step in the right direction.

As I get older I realize that clinging to my dogmatic ideas of health and fitness doesn't do me any favours. I have to get rid of the illusion that mind and body are separate, and that a hierarchy exists between the two with mind at the top and body at the bottom. Physical health affects mental health and vice versa, and if I want to improve my mental health I have to stop ignoring my physical health.

It hasn't been easy. There have been setbacks mounted upon setbacks. But lately I feel like I'm getting on the right track as far as developing the mindset that will allow me to finally embrace a new idea of what fitness and health will be.

My self-assessment is fairly simple. I measured my BMI, weight, and the inches around my waist and chest. I also know my maximum heart rate and the number of situps I can do before I want to cry out from severe muscular pain. It's a simple assessment, something that I don't have to strain myself too much to do, but still gives me plenty of numbers that I can use and compare by the end of the year.

Assessment
Weight: 304.9 lbs.
BMI: 37.91 lbs.
Chest: 46 inches.
Waist: 49.75 inches.
Heart Rate: 152 bpm.
Situps: 24 (four sets of six).

And now for the goals. I have two sets of three goals. The first three are relatively easy, the second three are much harder. All told I hope to hit all of them, and the harder ones won't be easy to do if I don't keep track. So more checking in and more monitoring is the key.

Goals
Get some better weights at home by March 1, 2013.
Finish the C25K program by April 1, 2013.
Lose 15 pounds by May 2013.
Bench press 1/3 of my body weight by September 1, 2013.
Change BMI to 30 by October 1, 2013.
Get the exercise bike to 1500 Km by November 1, 2013 (currently at just over 500).

So. That's my project. I'm making the commitment. I'll have to be dilligent about checking my progress or else the last three goals will never happen. See you on the other side.
