The dead lock

The dead lock - student project

Surprise:

Holden arrives at his sister's apartment and knocks hard on the wooden door three times. The sister barely opens the locked door. Holden sees his sister Karen behind the metal chain holding the door to the door card.

- Hey Kar, how you've been?

- Nothing much, you know... same old, same old.

- Ya sure? Ya haven't answered any of Danny's call... speaking of that bastard, ya know where he is? He was supposed to meet me.

- Nop, he's probably dopped out of his mind at some crack house.

Holden tries to see around Karen only to satisfy his curiosity.

- Can I use your phone, mine died, forgot my charger at ma's home.

There's a moment of silence between the two.

- Are ya going to let me in or what?

Karen quickly nods.

- Yeah, of course... just let me unlock the door.

Karen closes the door. Holden takes out a cigarette from his pocket and puts it in his mouth. He then takes out a lighter and tries to light his cigarette with only sparks flying from it. As holden tries to light up his cigarette, Bullets flies faster than he can blink from Karen's door hitting Holden in the stomach. Holden drops on the ground in pain looking at the door opening. When the door is fully opened, Holden sees the dead body of Danny inside his sister's apartment with Karen holding the smoking pistol. Everything slowly becomes dark until only the blackest darkness can be seen. Holden is now dead.

Suspense:

Holden arrives at his sister's apartment and knocks hard on the door three times. Shortly after The sister barely opens the locked door. Holden sees his sister Karen behind the metal chain holding the door to the door card. Karen is hiding a loaded pistol in her hand behind the locked door ready to be pointed at her brother. Just beside Karen, on the ground behind the door, is the body of Danny her little brother. Holden, as always, starts with the formalities.

 Hey Kar, how you've been?

- Nothing much, you know... same old, same old.

- Ya sure? Ya haven't answered any of Danny's call... speaking of that bastard, ya know where he is? He was supposed to meet me.

- Nop, he's probably dopped out of his mind at some crack house.

Karen kicks the body behind her trying to discreetly push the body to the side. Holden tries to see around Karen only to satisfy his curiosity. She can feel Holden's piercing gaze burning through her trying to see behind and around her.

- Can I use your phone, mine died, forgot my charger at ma's home.

There's a moment of silence between the two. Karen is too distracted by trying to keep her cool and run through her mind a series of excuses to not let Holden inside the apartment. Her train of thought is abruptly stopped by her brother's pushing words.

- Are ya going to let me in or what?

Karen quickly nods.

- Yeah, of course... just let me unlock the door.

Karen closes the door. Holden takes out a cigarette from his pocket and puts it in his mouth.

Karen stays facing the closed door like a statue.

Holden takes out a lighter and tries to light his cigarette. As he's using his thumb to fire up the lighter, only sparks fly from it.

Karen slowly puts up her pistol and points it in the middle of the door, roughly where Holden is standing. Her hand is shaking, she tries to stabilize it with her other hand both holding the pistol. her index on the trigger ready to shoot. She starts to slowly squeeze the trigger but immediately stops. Karen is trying to pull herself together. She gives herself small slaps to the face as if she was trying to wake up from a dream, she then takes a big breath, points the gun ready. She's now ready physically and mentally.

While holden tries to light up his cigarette, Bullets flies faster than he can blink from Karen's door hitting Holden in the stomach. Holden drops on the ground in pain looking at the door opening. When the door is fully opened, Holden sees the dead body of Danny inside his sister's apartment with Karen holding the smoking pistol.
