The Vault Cafe - Label Design

The Vault Cafe - Label Design - student project

Hey Everyone! just hoping to get some heavy criticism and feed back for my label. I really want to take it to the next level, but i'm just not feeling it. Send me your toughts!

Hi Everyone!

The project label I'm working on is for a concept coffee shop called "The Vault Cafe". I've collected a few items for my mood board, keeping in consideration the style as well as the medium for which the label will be used. I want to combine the solid & clean two tone of the propaganda style with the rough freeform single town of the stamp.

I envision that this "Coffee Shop" will not have a "clean" design, but will still have a strong brand, with hand stamped coffee cups and bean bags to illustrated chalkboard menus and wooden display boxes. Using redly available materials and simple stamps or ink transfers, maybe even Mod Podge! I'm hoping to build a label with these in mind.

I'm terrible at relying on my computer to do all the legwork of illustrating, creating font and building layouts, so i'm at a major handicap when it comes to drawing text or building images. My lines are very clunky and my form is terrible. I'm hoping this process will help force me into exploring new grounds and also forgiving and finding beauty in my imperfections.

First Typography Sketches

I wanted to start out with sketching the letter "V" as it's such a lovely letter, and i felt that how the V loked would really inspire the rest of the label. I'm very used to just selecting fonts from my data base, so i tried to force myself to draw out some basic serif and sans serif V's with a few bit of "flair".

This is page one of V's from my moleskine - as you can see, they are small....I'll be working on more V's today.

Label Composition

Next, i tried to create some lable compositions using the words THE , VAULT & CAFE.

I didn't add any type styling, cause, we'll I'm still terrified, but i did play around with placement, do i want a crest or a circle, do i want any illustrations, should it be ONLY text based, should it be ONLY "VAULT".

As you can nack for "miniturizing" has gotten worse.... i'll be playing around with some more today!

Label style

Hey everyone, I know it's been a while, but a new contact has been keeping me busy and creativly distracted!

Here are some sketches i've been playing with.
I've decided to go with the last one. Just drew it out a bit larger, and will take it in to Illustrator to draw it out and get the flurishes right.

Wish me luck!

May 28th Update:

OK! I've done it! I've vectored my logo and have placted it on a few items.
I made a lot of changes and tried some variations during the Digital proccess. I wanted to do so much more, but i thought i would keep it as clean and simple as possible and let the supporting elements or the mediam speak for it's self.

I'm NOT finished the logo/lable, and would LOVE some feed back on how to make it better, stronger & more impactful! Please just lay it on me thick!! I want to make revisions and re-print everything!
