The Sun Also Rises . . . again

I have the 1970 Charles Schibner's Sons paperback publication of Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises" in my bookcase. The cover design in this publication illustrates a pastoral scene painted by James and Ruth McCrea. While the image depicts a countryside scene that most likely represents what the characters saw on their way to Pamplona, it looks outdated without the simplicity of a focal point.

In redesigning the book cover, I wanted the sun to appear as heat, searing like the complicated characters in the story. The figure of bull not only represents the bullfights of Pamplona, but the strength of the charaters within. Overall, I regard the revised design of the book cover as a minimalist image, one that allows the viewer to see a bold focused view of Hemingway's story.
