The Secret Revealed

A cold grey sky cast its pallor on the butter yellow house before her. The clouds completely blocked out the sun. She bit the left side of her lower lip as she entered Morgan's house. Her eyes darted left and right. She clasped her hands together and twiddled her thumbs. Morgan traipsed over to a cocoa couch with overstuffed cushions.

"Take a seat," Morgan offered.

"Thanks," Rosalind said. Her knee shook up and down.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing" Rosalind blurted out.

Morgan tilted her head down and raised her eyebrows.

"OK, there's something I haven't told you."

"Bout why you moved here?" Morgan smiled excitedly, "cause the way you been avoiding that question I'm starting to think you killed somebody."

"I didn't kill anybody! b-but yes...it's about why we moved here. My dad, he chased us away."

"How? What'd he do?"

"He was just really mean. He would flip out and attack my mom and me."

"Like physically?"

"Yes."

"Oh my god! I had no idea. You don't seem like you been through anything like that."

"What am I supposed to act like?" Rosalin snapped.

"I don't know, more scared I guess? Why you yelling at me?"

"I'm sorry," Rosalin looked down and sighed. "I just-- people don't always believe me."

"Why not? Why would you make up something like that?"

Rosalin smiled, "I wouldn't. Thanks for believing me."

"Of course. We friends aren't we?"

"Yeah," Her smile was even bigger. She leaned back in her seat. "I was so scared of how you would react. I guess I was being silly."

"I mean, If people didn't believe you before it makes sense."

"I'm sorry I was so sharp with you."

Morgan shook her head. "You already apologized for that. And it's ok."

"Thanks."
