The Purrfect Distraction

Hey everyone! I can't wait to get stuck into some storyboarding. It took me a while to think of what story to base my project on but I think I'm happy with the one I picked.

These were my three ideas:

1. The freaky outpost.
When my girlfriend and I were away holidaying in New Zealand this year we decided we wanted to get away from a lot of the other tourists and go and stay somewhere really different, off the beaten track. So we found somewhere that seemed pretty cool, booked a night online and took off on our long journey to get there.

When we finally arrived we were greeted by dead animal carcasses out the front and a large scary man who ran the place but had no idea we were coming! He didn't even know people could book online to stay there! The place looked like no one had been out there in months. It was too isolated, dark and rainy to drive anywhere else that night so we had to stay. Needless to say it was pretty scary!

2. The Case of the Disappearing Beer
This story happened when I was just a toddler. I was too young to remember any of it so it's based more off my Dad's story. Anyhow, he was outside one afternoon mowing the lawn. It was a really hot afternoon so he decided to pour himself a nice big jug of beer to have as he worked. He took a sip and then carried on working. After a few minutes he returned to find an empty jug.

He thought "Wow! It must be hot! I'm sure I didn't drink all of that!" So he poured another, took a swig, and continued on with his work. Again minutes later he returned to find an empty glass. He knew something was definitely up this time and went inside to go see if my Mum was playing a trick on him.

Mum had no idea what he was talking about and thought he'd probably had a few too many. That was until I stumbled in (age 2) and plonked myself down on the couch. They could see I looked very strange and got closer to take a look what was wrong with me. I could hardly keep my eyes open and they began to get really worried. Then all of a sudden I erupted, throwing up beer all over both of them. Mystery solved!

3. The Purrfect Distraction
I have a cat called Fritz. Generally he is pretty well-behaved unless of course I am trying to do work in my study at home. Any other time of day he will sleep or entertain himself for hours, but when it's time for me to sit down and do some drawing he can't help but annoy me constantly.

This story is about some of the things he does to distract me from doing my work, and how even when you stop to pay attention to him, it's not enough! Like Leo's story, it's about finding a way we can both get what we want. Even as I write this he is circling my chair, meowing and tapping at my arm.

So in the end I decided to go with the third story. I feel it is a nice entry point into learning to storyboard as the idea and location are quite simple and there's a lot of room for jokes throughout. I'm really looking forward to thumbnailing out the sequence (that is of course if Fritz will let me).
