ESSENTIAL 2

1. Detecting intetion to deceive.  I am a private investigator with 10 years' experience in conducting insurance fraud factual investigations.  I have conducted hundreds of face-to-face and telephone interviews.  Through ongoing self-directed learning I have developed above-average ability to recognise micro expressions.  I have also trained myself in techniques to identify intention to deceive.

2. Teaching interview technique/skills.  Over the past 6 years I have taught factual investigation skills to a large number of newly licensed and veteran private investigators.  In my current role I have recently trained a team of insurance claims consultants to conduct desktop investigations to the extent that they no longer rely on external investigation service providers.  They now enjoy vastly improved success in detecting intention to deceive.

3. Critiquing recorded interviews. I regularly review recorded insurance interviews and provide analysis on questioning technique and indicators of intention to deceive.

ESSENTIAL 7

How badly do they need me?

As a PI Coach:

  • Not properly trained
  • Need an advantage over other investigators
  • Need to be good straight away or reputational damage likely
  • Hard to get a job when inexperienced

As a consultant to corporations:

  • Sometimes big $ at stake
  • Want an advantage over competitors
  • Want to mitigate risks
  • Don't want to waste time or $ on wrong deal, partner, recruit
  • Want to get to bottom of internal fraud quickly

How easily could I be replaced?

As a PI Coach:

Very difficult to replace.  No one else doing PI coaching in Australia. Some investigation companies offer internal training, but does not include training on detecting deception and not personally tailored.

As a consultant to corporations:

There are other professionals in Australia that promote themselves as lie detectors, etc.  I could be replaced by one of them.

How in love with the project are they?

As a PI Coach:

Newly licensed investigators are green and keen.  They want to success and start making money asap. By paying for their qualifications and licence they have demonstrated a willingness to invest in themselves.

As a consultant to corporations:

This will vary.

Other vulnerabilities?

As a PI Coach:

New investigators will be lacking confidence in their abilities.

As a consultant to corporations:

They will sometimes be desperate for guidance due to legal and time constraints.  They will be willing to pay for fast intelligence.

ESSENTIAL 8

There would be a clause in my "appointment schedule" which would stipulate full payment of listed fee for services offered prior to provision of that service.  There would also be a clause allowing for revision of fees in cases where extension of services are required. This would allow me to vary fees from that point to allow for situations where I want to obtain higher fees (or if I want to price myself out of their range of affordability) or, alternatively, slightly lower fees for clients that request extended services over a long period of time.  There would also be a clause advising that there are no guarantees of continued services once initial service has been provided.  This will allow me to drop unwanted clients and will free me up to pursue other clients/prospects.

ESSENTIAL 12

Have contacted a coach local to me. Am awaiting response and initial free consultation.

ESSENTIAL 13

Failure factors:

  • Assumed uptake of services by newly licensed investigators that are cash-strapped
  • Assumed pricing is appropriate (higher than new investigator's hourly rate)
  • Lack of properly targetted marketing to investigators
  • Lack of leveraging networks for corporate work
  • Amateurish website and poor soclai media presence

ESSENTIAL 14

  • I will ensure uptake by investigators by using targetted marketing that appeals to their desire to succees, get a job and gain an edge over their competitors.
  • I will ensure uptake by corporations by creating a professional website (outsource?) and social media presence.  I will also leverage my network for word-of-mouth references.
  • I will ensure I outsource bookkeeping in order to free up my time to focus on my strengths.

ESSENTIAL 16

I am procrastinating with taking the leap and letting the market know that my services are for hire. I have not yet created a website, spoken with any of my networks, or advertised my services on social media.  Also, I have not prepared materials I will need for coaching.  I hesitate to promote my corporate deception detecting services because, despite my demonstrated abilities, I have not ever received any formal training.
