The Nightmare Before Christmas

Update 01/18/15 - Start to My Animation

Here is a start to my animation. You will notice a thin line that cuts across the composition in the beginning. I think it is because I created vector outlines from an illustrator file. I'll have to figure out how to fix that soon.

I want to make it look like Jack's head pops through the snowman's head, sending the snowman's eyes and nose flying. Maybe bits of snow could fly out from around the head when his head pops through. I was thinking that the umbrella and hat could be tossed into the composition for either side and caught by Jack. He would put the hat on his head and rest the umbrella on the ground.

Hello!

My favorite film growing up was Tim Burton's, "The Nightmare Before Christmas". To this day I can still recite it almost word for word... I admit I was a bit obsessed.

My first two movie picks were The Nightmare Before Christmas and the original Dumb and Dumber. I wrote out a some keywords for both and decided that I have more heart for The Nightmare before Christmas.

Below are my keywords.

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Keywords:

Dark, Spooky, Surreal, Magical ----- The overall mood

  • Halloween
  • Bats
  • Oogie boogie man
  • Jack the pumpkin king - iconic skull
  • Pumpkins
  • Christmas
  • Snowflakes
  • Spiders
  • Frost
  • Snow
  • Christmas Lights
  • Skeleton reindeer
  • Santa
  • Candy Canes
  • Cemetery - gates, tombstones

I just spent a bit of time watching parts of the film to job my memory and to hopefully help inspire my piece. I stumbled across the scene for the song "What's This", where Jack get time warped into Christmas land and jumps into a Snowman. I'm not exactly sure how I want to animate the scene but I at least think there is potential. Below is my initial composition.
