The Infinite Depths of a Mom Bag

The Infinite Depths of a Mom Bag - student project

I started out trying to freehand some leaves, but in the end I realized I wanted to draw things I connect with and use daily in a more tactile way. So I gathered things that have ended up at the bottom of my purse (I've got three littles who stash stuff there, too) and started sketching that mishmash of my everyday life.

I scanned and vectorized:

I did my "cut and paste" digitally in Photoshop:

And then just defined a pattern. Voila!

I probably wouldn't paper my walls with it, but it could be a fun greeting card or notebook cover. This was a fun technique, and I loved Julia's encouragement to just draw without worrying about perfection. I've been thinking about pattern design as a new outlet now!
