The Horse and His Boy – C.S. Lewis

Hello fellow Skillshare people! I choose the book "The Horse and His Boy" by C.S. Lewis. I grew up reading the Chronicles of Narnia series and wanted to revisit one of the books I had only read once.

Ahead of time I decided to use L as the drop cap from the last name of the author. Here are some of my notes from during reading and my brainstorming after I had finished. This is kinda crazy, sorry about that.

A few major themes I wanted to focus on were travelers, adventure, north, mountians, tombs and royalty. All of those things have big parts in the story and differentiate the book in the Narnia series.

Here are some of my initial sketches. I quickly found out that drawing a horse was not as easy as I thought it would be! Haha.

After filling up a few pages I decided to try and combine a few of the ideas and contain it in the letterform itself, that's where I came up with the idea below.

I am going to bring that last sketch into the computer and start digitizing. I'd love any feedback you all have! Thanks for taking the time to read/look at my crazy ideas.

UPDATE:

I pursued a few options on the computer and ended up going with one of the first ideas I had. I wanted the L to really represent royalty as that is a huge part of the story and the scenery to be easily recognizable scences from their travels. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
