The Happy Zine

The Happy Zine - student project

First, I just wanted to say thank you to Jessica and Timothy—you guys have been my heroes for so long, and you're part of the reason why I got into design! Thank you so much for teaching this class, spreading inspiration, and doing the amazing work that you do.

For a side project, I wanted to make an independently published zine exploring the concept of happiness—thinking about what it means to be happy, and compilation of collection of small ways to appreciate ourselves on a day-to-day basis.

I've been really drawn to the zine community for a number of reasons. Zine culture is all about sharing and creating without boundaries—there are no rules of any sort for what content should go in a zine, no predefined formats or restrictions. In the last few months, I've been struggling a lot with learning about happiness and loneliness and creative frustration, and how to reconcile these ideas with my own work and habits. Hopefully, this zine is a good first step in my journey to more deeply understanding what happiness means to me, and sharing this exploration with the world!

To accompany the zine, I also made a set of "Good Vibes" scratch cards—kind of like lottery tickets, but instead of cash, the "prizes" are words of encouragement. And everyone wins.

Again, I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to take this class and learn from you! I'm excited to keep working on side projects and sharing them with others.
