The Ghost Trees of Alaska

I just returned from a trip to Anchorage, Alaska and on one of my biking treks along the Kenai Peninsula I passed a field of these visually striking dead trees.

On further inquiry, I learned that these trees are referred to as the ghost trees of Alaska. During the 1964 earthquake and the Tsunamis that followed the earthquake, that whole area sank a number of feet and as a result the trees were flooded with salt water.

I want to give a scientific account on how these ghost trees came into existence.
