The Fortress

Memories of yesterday,

The ebbs and the flows

Are buried so deeply

In the boulders of her soul

The tide,

How it keeps her

In a pendulum flow,

A safety net

Holding her

From a future she longs to know.

An impenetrable

She's built up around her heart

To tear it apart.

Strong she seems,

To those around her -

Unsinkable -

But somehow,

Deep down

In her unshakable

Yet delicate core,

A part of her -

It's drowning.

(I wrote this while looking at the ocean, and it just came to me.  I felt alive when I wrote it yet saddened somehow).
