The Cost Of Not Speaking Up

I have been familiar with the Crucial Conversations content for some time. It amazes me how much I continue to learn when interacting with the content.

Today, my take home message will be on the cost of not speaking up. In general, I am one who will speak up, however, I have noticed in a few meetings I have been part of recently, I have kept quiet.

Some excuses I use for not speaking up:

1. I have spoken up on this topic many times before and nothing changed.

2. I don't want to be that person that won't shut up in the meeting.

3. I might be nervous that others don't feel the same way I do.

The problem is that when I allow myself to use these excuses, I often do myself and the others in the room a disservice.

There IS a cost to not speaking up and I will feel the pain of that cost later when I choose to say nothing.
