The Bus Stations Between Montreal and Columbus (oh) - An Illustrated Guide to Survive Through 22hrs of Bus

Why am I the expert to create this map?

For a little over two years, I've been taking that bus itinerary every 2-3 months to visit my boyfriend in Ohio. I started doing it living in Quebec City, then i moved a little south --to Montreal-- for school, bringing me 2h30 closer to my final destination. It is a painful trip, but when it had been a while since i'd took it, i started longing for it, and not just because I missed a boy.

The long hours all to myself, letting my mind wander to the sound of music or snoring passengers, the slight feeling of freedom from leaving everything for a little while, is enough to make you forget about the back pains and... the snoring --and sometimes smelly-- pasengers ;). Once you know what to expect on the road and at the reststops, what to bring with you and what to ommit, the journey is much better and almost enjoyable until the end.

Why am I making this map?

I'm making this map for fun, and as a gift for my boyfriend who'll be making that trip by bus for the first time late december. When he (finally!!!) moved to Montreal last summer, he left his car in the USA, so he'll now need to take the bus to go visit. Now, I was looking forward to making the trip with him for the holidays and showing him everything, but his school is over before mine and he misses his folks and needs to leave as early as he can, but I still wanted to find a way to be with him along the way and help him go through it.

Target audience :

My boyfriend, and my friends and family so I can finally illustrate what kind of experience it is.

Details I need to include :

City names, perks and no-nos of rest stops (maybe using color coding?), easily readable... Maybe reference at the bottom or the back of the map for more details...

Do I want my final project to be printed or digital? How is it going to be used/ held? What other constraints do I need to keep in mind moving forward?

I want that project to be printed. Probably no bigger than a postcard if I want him to leave with it. (he hates bringing extra stuff : i had to convince him of the good of carrying a backpack to bring a pillow and not have everything in his pockets so he's comfortable on the bus!!) It would be ideally pocket-sized, but I think I'll make it so it's foldable. Wait a minute... unless i make it phone-sized and digital, with clickable stations from which unrolls the details... mm :P i wish i was a good programmer! Maybe it'll end up being a very long picture, starting with the actual map of the itinerary, then scrolling down there'd be time of arrival/departure and what to do there... Ha, i guess this needs more thinking ;)

If you guys have any suggestions at all, please let me know :)
