The Blueprint Project

At the start of the latest Blueprint Project for children on the autism spectrum, facilitator Monica Matei brought in some large zip-top plastic freezer bags for her young art students.

She then squirted some blobs of paint inside each one, zipped up the bags and let the kids mix the primary colours through the layer of plastic.

The idea, she said, was to introduce the kids to colour theory in a way that made them feel comfortable.

Most children with autism have difficulties with sensations, like the texture of squishing paint on their hands.

So Matei knew she had to start slow.

That was Day 1.

-And by the end of the program, they’re painting with their hands and have paint all over !
