The Art & Science of Drawing (Day One: Light Lines)

I am not completely new to drawing but I haven't been practicing this for many years so I decided to go back to the basics to get my mementum going hence why I chose The Art & Science of Drawing.

For the assignment I wanted to experiment with a number of different pencil grades to get a feel for what was the best option for me. I found that I am quite heavy handed so the recommended 2B grade in the first video didn't quite work for me so I experimented with the H grades.

I did a number of drawings with 2H, 4H & 5H. 2H again was still too heavy for my handing but the 4H & 5H worked really well.

My hand gestures also influenced the lightness. Using the High Tripod Grip seemed to help me to lighten my lines compared to the Overhand Grip.

I found the assignment very thought provoking & helped me to loosen up on my movements & hand gestures without worrying about drawing a specific subject or object.
