The Alchemist - Drop Cap

I've decided to create a drop cap based on Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. I have to say, for such a small read, this book is amazing. Tons of little life advice told within a fable. I'll try my best to explain some of the work without giving away too many spoilers.

Brainstorm:

This took me about 5-10 minutes to complete. I usually brainstorm in my head and then sketch out the ideas. But for sake of this practice, I wrote it all out. Here is the list:

shepard, sheep, gold, sycamore tree, church, monastary, boat, land, Spain, Africa, wine, tea, camel, desert, moon, pyramids, tent, woman, Fatima, love, Universe, wind, sun, heavens, smoke, silence, birds, treasure

Initial Thoughts / Sketch explanations:

1. Night-time desert scene with pyramids in the background. It's essentially, Santiago's (the main character) reason for going on his big adventure. The drop cap itself would be decorated with some arabic swashes.

2. Sycamore tree in a old church. This is where both the book begins and ends. Again, a very powerful scene.

3. Urim and Thummim - two stones that allowed Santiago to read omens. Omens are a re-occuring theme throughout the book.
