Texture 4 Life

First off I learned a ton in this class, I really enoy seeing other proffesional's process and tips.

That said, I was really struck by Andrew's enthusiasm about how getting dirty hands was part of the process of making good textures, so I used that as part of the concept.

I started with a few (very) rough thumbanils to get an idea how I wanted the layout of the poster to be:

I then created a refined sketch, I used my own hands as reference and I never realised how short and stubby my fingers are :x

Made a few textures with the Xerox, some paint and a large ink pad:

I then created the layout in Illustrator and chose the initial colours:

27096873

And then textured in Photoshop. This was a new process for me, so while I like the ease of using a mask in photoshop, Illustrator is home. I suspect the more I do it this way, the easier it will become.

Also I couldn't decide on colours, so there's a few renditions until I found the perfect combo:

And the final, I changed the colours (again!) and due to feedback about the copy not having the intended meaning, I changed that also.
