Tea, Earl Grey, Hot.

This project has been in my head for a long time. I'm so happy to have found SkillShare. I'm a self taught artist with a life long passion for typography and lettering. When I was a kid my grandmother had a book, Lettering and Alphabets by J. Albert Cavanagh. I would sit for hours and stare at the pages of letters. I've always loved the look of words, especially when they're drawn in such a way as to express their meaning.

I've taken a few SkillShare classes but this one spoke to me the most. Mary Kate McDevitt's style is so fun and playful, it takes away the stress of getting everything 'perfect'. That was eye opening and really helped me to be creative and reach into all the corners of my mind where I keep the little ideas I didn't think would work before. The idea of creating a mood board and list of related words for each project were especially good tips.

Tea, Earl Grey, Hot.

The first rough draft. I see a lot I want to change but I'm very happy with the majority of this.

This project, Tea, Earl Grey, Hot. is a quote from Star Trek The Next Generation. I'm a huge fan of scifi and I love Captain Jean Luc Picard. I love quotes from movies, TV and books just as much as I love typography. I can't even express how excited I am to be putting the two together.

This project is my first of its kind since High School a decade ago, and it's very amatuerish. But after tracing my first draft I looked at my paper and the thin pencil lines and was genuinely shocked at how much it looked like I wanted it to. I am so happy I have found this class!
