I wanted to build an iPhone/iPad version of an electronic tabla machine. If you don't know what a tabla is, from Wikipedia:
The tabla (or tabl, tabla) is a membranophone percussion instrument (similar to bongos), used in Hindustani classical music and in popular and devotional music of the Indian subcontinent. The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums of contrasting sizes and timbres. The term tabla is derived from an Arabic word, tabl, which simply means "drum."
Here is what a tabla pair looks like:
An electronic version of the instrument can be seen in the project cover photo and below:
Basically I want to build an iPhone/iPad emulation of what you see above (obviously with some funcionaltiy and user interface/design changes). I could go on and on about how the functionality would work but I'd rather try and keep up with this course since it's rather daunting for a non-programmer like myself. In terms of GUI I wanted it to look like the Propellerheads Figure app which I think is one of the best audio apps out there right now:
If anyone would like to collaborate on this or any other project I would love to exchange ideas and talk. I'm here to learn. I have over 20 years of experience in audio engineering, mixing and sound design as well as quite a bit of experience in graphic and GUI design, so I'll gladly share my expertise and knowledge in exchange for yours if you are interested.
Thanks for reading. Good luck!
