T is for Thanks!

Hello! I'm cheating a bit for this project and instead of doing a book cover I'm doing a series of cards with the letter T for Thank You. Jessica does mention we don't HAVE to do a book cover and I'll probably do one later so for now onward and upward!

To start I looked around at a lot of hand lettering specifically drop caps. I wanted to see what I liked and what I didn't and to get a little inspired.

Quick initial sketches, just getting ideas down not necessarily commited to anything.

I picked 3 sketches I liked the most and did more detailed sketches. One isn't picture. It was so helpful seeing Jessica sketch out her script. I picked up a few things actually seeing how a professional gets their curves so smooth.

Now on to digitizing!

Ugh I'm so frustrated with these curves. I'm having such a time with kinks in my lines and trying to get them smooth.

Final version of my Drop Caps. I really love how these came out! I printed out the digital versions and transfered the designs to lino blocks at which point I carved out the designs to make prints. For a final touch I used embroidery threads to add in the colour. I can't wait to order my thank you cards with these designs!
