Sword x Feather

+ Creator: Marquis Mosley

+ Origin: Philadelphia, Pa

+ Brand Name: Sword x Feather

+ Slogan: Fearless, & Free

2014

Revisiting the project, I decided to really clean up the branding. I dropped the "s" and changed the name to Sword x Feather.  Personally I think this brand has the potential to cater to a broad audience across continents and time. My goal is to build something with longevity and flexibility, so i decided to go with a cleaner, and more modern aesthetic.

+ Logo

Starting the brand with the name Peter-Pan-Mindset, I Worked with a friend of mine to design the logo using blackletter fonts, criss-crossing the feather and the sword to symbolize Pan's ongoing fight between not only the pirates and indians, but also his fight to stay young.  After changing the name to Swords and Feathers I saw that the sword sybolizes fearlessness, while the feather represents freedom... hence the slogan: Young Fearless and Free.

Icon Study :: Looking for the best combination of font, sword/dagger, and feather

After dropping the PPMS, i decided to explore more alternatives for the Feather & Dagger icon.  One idea was too alternate the sword based on the theme of the collection.  For example, a wooden sword for the Peter-Pan-Mindset collection... a Samurai sword for the Ghangis Khan inspired collection... or a crooked dagger for the pirate collection...

+ CAD Mockups

Originally, the theme for the first collection was inspired by our original concept "Peter Pan Mindset".  I designed the collection to incorporate the elements of Neverland from the original Play/Book by J.M. Barrie.

Pete Pan Mindset isn’t just about being wild and free, partying and enjoying life to the fullest, it’s about staying creative, hungry, and fearless, seeing the world with an open mind, & remaining true to yourself.

I then began exploring other themes that are similar in nature but not directly related to Peter-Pan including paintings from the 16th and 17th centurary in the vanitas style, which have a common theme illustrating the certainty of death (memento mori).

Eventually I want to focus future themes based around specific styles that fall in line with "Swords and Feathers"... examples of these would include Navajo inspired collection, or Genghis Khan and samurai based collections, as well as pirate/viking, and ancient roman themes.

+ About

After listening to Jeff Staple talk about his desire to create a brand with global appeal and longevity, I realized that I too wanted to create a brand with a positive message that I could share with the world.  I wanted to create something that really focused on living life in the present moment.  I also wanted to create this brand as a perfect blend between a lifestyle brand and a street wear brand, with a powerful message to encourage people to live free and enjoy the present, & never let fear or doubt chase you away from your childhood dreams and spirit.

I started out with the brand-name "Peter Pan Mindset", but through research and feedback, i found it to be too in your face and obvious. I wanted the peter pan references but i wanted them to be more thematic and subtle.

Some of the other names that came up were: PPMS :: Pirates&Indians :: JohnMichaelWendy :: Darling
