MOODBOARD

Inspired by 70s surf/skate style and colors. Like sun-bleached pictures in old surf magazines, lazy days in the summer, falling asleep to seagull sounds, that long drive back from the beach. Salt. Sand. Sweat. Water. Sky.

SKETCHES

My sketches began with choosing lines. I really wanted to have a defined but withered line, reminiscent of waves or brush strokes. The crosshatching was inspired by woven palm leaves. Following the California theme, I really wanted to include arid climate as well as a beachy feel, so I drew poppies as well as thistles. Wet and dry. The palm wood didn't make it into my final collection in a literal sense, but the surf board pattern is reminiscent of the curvature pattern in the palm wood.

(Still tweaking the stroke color on this one ... it's supposed to be sand-colored, but it's turning out pink in the gif)

The crosshatching honsetly took way longer than I thought it would. But I love the way it turned out.

Faded Tide brings together surf and the sun-bleached floral patterns of the 70s. My inspiration came from old surfer magazines, California flowers and palm trees. The colors and feel bring us back to beach days that seem endless, sand in our hair, seagulls just off in the distance, and that long, whistful, suntanned drive back home.
