Summer All Live Bugs

Hi everyone! Such a pleasure to share this awesome class with all of you. I really enjoying the whole process of creating patterns: think about ideas, draw sketches, take pictures, illustrate my own sketches and color them. I can be doing these things hours and hours!

My name is Alexandra, I live in Vic, small town one hour from Barcelona. I share my live with my husband, our baby boy 9 month old (he surprise us at every moment!) and a small black schnauzer doggy. I apologize if I am being wrong with my english, my native language is catalan, but I am going to do my best ;)

I name this project "Summer All Live Bugs" because where I live good weather is near, and when summer approaches we use to say a cliché that means that all bugs are kept alive . So this idea has been my inspiration.

This is my moodboard:

I created my moodboard from some pictures I took, one of my baby favorite books "Toca i mira: Bestioles de jardí" and a wings's image which I found online.

Then I started drawing some sketches and this is the result:

I been working from my sketches using the blob brush tool and the live trace tool. Add color to my sketches has been the funniest part. Become aware that your own doodles could be so beautiful this is amazing. I created the color palette from two picture of flowers I have at home, one orchid inside and some tiny purples flowers outside. Here is "Summer All Live Bugs" color palette:

Here are some color sketches and some motifs that I created:

And finally some patterns. I can't make only one pattern, create them is so addictive! Hope you like my work ;)

Another pattern that I particularly like named Ladybug on the leaves:

Bee's Sweet Home
