Stillness and the City, The Clock, NYC

Thank you Skillshare and Ami Vitale for this unique opportnuity.

For my project I decided I would check out the pre-dawn scene of Grand Central and capture a moment of time before the light of day transforms one of the most iconic places in the world, Grand Central Terminal, New York City.

I looked through my lens and viewed the main clock with a different set of eyes.  Most people, especially New Yorkers, are rushing to be somewhere.  I wasn’t concerned with being anywhere except there, keeping time with one of the most famous clocks in the world.

There are many things I love about Grand Central Terminal; its bustling activity, its beauty, but most of all, its energy; it is the heart and soul of the city.   Daily, approximately 750,000 people pass through Grand Central Terminal.  I thought I was going to capture the quintessential madness of Grand Central Terminal that we have come to know and love.  Instead, I captured the stillness of the City that never sleeps.

It was a magical morning watching the rhythm of Grand Central’s soft and sensitive side come alive!    I am glad I captured a piece of magnificent wonder in keeping time with the beat of Grand Central Terminal and the millions of people it serves from all around the world.

There are over 2,000 stars painted on the ceiling.  Perhaps this girl was wishing upon a star?
