Step # 2. Better with sketching!

PersianTutorial-by-Olga-Peregood-01.jpg

Welcome cute kittens lovers and wonderful artists!

Today is the step # 2, which is called "Better with sketching".

I never use any pencil or sketch on my paintings. I found this lines distract me from be totally free. I want to be guided by watercolor and not by this lines and borders.

For the aim of this lesson I do use pencil and show you how to learn to paint loose. Sketching is necessary especially if you a beginner!

Important: You should know your subject well, hold right proportions, form and size of different parts of your painting. This make your subject REALISTIC.

PersianTutorial-by-Olga-Peregood-00.jpg

This is a pencil :) Please do use a pencil sketch (very very light please, so its hard to recognize you used it). Once you know your subject well - paint without a pencil!

PersianTutorial-by-Olga-Peregood-01.jpg

Please, make sure that your lines is hardly to see, very-very light please. It is hard to make a photo so you can see how light my apply of pencil on my sketch.

So, now I step back and wait for tomorrow to continue my tutorial and see your sketches! Open new Project and upload your kitten photo and sketch there. If you already have a Project just continue to add new material into it.

I'll start to paint Persian and every day share new step with you so everyone can get it and start to paint with me. Please, continue to share your kittens photographs with us, even if you don't going to paint or open new Project here, other students could use your photos as inspiration and subject!                                        Step # 3. Choosing palette!

Hello everyone! I hope you doing wel this wonderful sunny foze morning (in Ontario, Canada).

While you work on step #1 and #2 I make a step back and wait a little so everyone don't miss. So everyone who want to paint with me choose delicious photo and make sketch of it on this weekend.

I think about colors a little bit and this is my scrap piece of paper with swatches of colors for my future cat. My subject is almost white, but if you look closer you'll see colors!

                                      Step # 4. Glassy Eyes

Good morning, everyone! How was your weekend? It was so shiny in Ontario so I walked outside in the park along frozen river although frozen crystals in my nose! Hot tea perking on the range and closing in my studio to continue my Persian tutorial.

I wait a little bit so everyone who wants to join my tutorial can find photo and make sketch. I slow down and will move very slowly. Today I'll show you eyes.

Before you apply contur be prepared to move quickly so your color don't dry. This is Quinacridone Gold by Winsor and Newton. This color is suitable for eyes on my photo.

...and fill inner space with water. Don't forget to leave these white areas.

Rapidly clean my brush and spread this color by water outside of eyes.

That's it for today. Can't wait to see your results! I play only with Quinacridone Gold. You can make more fun with your paintings by adding second color and enjoy how they mixed together! Just a dot of new color in eyes, please! We don't paint fur yet. This is our eyes only, very first layer. Watch the video again to be sure you doing it very easy and don't touch your wash! Let the magic happen!

So, now I step back and wait for tomorrow to continue my tutorial and see your results!

You can use mine as well.

I want to see your photo and your sketch and I'll LOVE to give you my teacher suggestions on how to improve!

See you and your photos in this class tomorrow,
Olga

Hello, everyone! What a wonderful sunny frozen afternoon in Ontario, Canada! My hands are still wooden after my morning walk in the park.

Today I finished editing a new video for my YouTube channel which will be published this Sunday and I made a little blog post on my blog today about what's coming - http://ladywonderbrush.blogspot.ca/2016/02/dolphins-inspires-me.html

                                    Step # 5. Stay fluffy

Today when my hands get warmer I'm going to continue to play with my washes and create rich fur effects for my Persian. Look at his fur!

8405cd90

If you remember in video from this class I wet with water the whole body where future fur will be. You can see how my paper is glowing and asking for colors to be added into it immediately!

0f52550f

Remember my color palette? Now I'll have a lot of fun with it!

3ff6e25c

My Persian is almost white. I use light amount of pigments. Yellow is missed somewhere...

9715ed15

This is wet-on-wet technique. Colors are blur and mixed softly. Next moment I will sprinkle a salt while wash is wet and leave paper to dry.

829d24c9

Very easy, isn't it? Please, please, keep it easy. The less brushstrokes you apply the better. Don't overwork your wonderful layer. I know you might be tempting to continue adding and adding new colors from your palette and it is so much fun to do so. Please, stop. It is so hard to be an artist!

56fca6b4

That's it for today. Can't wait to see what a fur will appear on my painting tomorrow and what on yours results!

Open new Project and upload your kitten photo, sketch, and steps. If you already have a Project just continue to add new material into it. If you already painted, paint one more kitten with new colors, new shades. It is so fun!

I'll continue to paint Persian and every day share new step with you so everyone can get it and start to paint with me. Please, continue to share your kittens photographs with us, even if you don't going to paint or open new Project here, other students could use your photos as inspiration and subject! You can use mine as well.

I want to see your photo and your steps and I'll LOVE to give you my teacher's suggestions on how to improve!

See you and your photos in this class tomorrow,

Olga

                                                                Step #6. Step back

Hi, there!

I hope everyone are doing well this weekend. Good time for this step, because we don't going to do anything at all. And this is my favorite part of this tutorial and any of my paintings!

a2c1d6dd

This is how it turns after paper completely dry.

I see fur, soft illusion. So happy with that!

030dfc9c

Look at Persians eyes and fur around. So cute!

200168a8

What we going to do than? Step back and enjoy our washes. Take time to fully enjoy, watching and waiting for new ideas. Relax. Forget about your painting. Come back later.

Tell me what ideas come to you at this step. You might start to see paws, different pose than on your photo, rabbit, buldog and many other interesting and intriguing ideas! Wait. Don't move to the next until you accept the most exciting one. Spent time by imagining your painting where such ideas implemented and notice and remember which one makes you excited the most. This is your painting, you decide what to paint. Noone's watching. Noone knows how much time you spent on your painting.

Keep practice and share your enthusiasm, your first step or your wonderful ideas and lets have fun!

Olga

Step #7. Take the most of it!

Hi, there! I can't wait to continue to paint my Persian! Let's jump into juicy content and see how it goes with this exciting wash!

So this is what we have. And this is the most hard part for many students. You get your exciting first wash, you enjoyed it, you have no idea what to do next or worse... afraid to ruin your painting.

0a4c906c

That is why I made this tutorial with pencil sketch.

And now let's add details to Persian's face. Eyes. Left eye. In a minute I'll smooth hard edges with water. If you don't like how it goes, remove it with tissue and start later again. May be right eye will have more success. May be will not. Remember, your cat don't have to be cute. This is just a tutorial.

Right eye.

A nose. Now you can really have fun. Because you have a sketch. This part could be too hard if you don't have a sketch. Relax and follow pencil lines with your brush and that is it!. Smooth with water. Continually ask yourself, is it look good for you or not? More color or less? More dark or less? There is a tissue. You can always start again and again until you happy with your piece!

I already feel there is end near around.

I just follow these pencil lines, look.

Adding some darks for fur.

Please stop me somebody! This is so addictive to add more details and see how my Persian come to life!

Adding wiskers and have to say see you in next post! because it is so easy to overwork right now.
