Star of the Sea

Star of the Sea - student project

This was such a great project, thanks Dylan!! I have been wanting to learn photoshop for a long time and this was perfect. It was so much fun to research the meaning of my name. I am attaching my design process below, I prefer to sketch with pencil and paper, but maybe now I will try to sketch in photoshop. I had already purchased Kyle's brushes and this was the first time using them, as you can see I went a little overboard with the brushes, but it was hard to stop. Thanks again for a wonderful introduction to photoshop, it will prove very useful in my work.

I forgot to mention my thought process, when I researched the meaning of my name Maureen, it said "protector" especially of those working or voyaging on the sea. Also, I thought of the actress Maureen O'Hara and her fiery red hair, so I immediately thought of a mermaid with red hair, sort of a mother figure, protecting little sea creatures. The yellow hair looked better so I went with the yellow in the end. Also, I design art for infant/children's products, hence the juvenile nature of the illustration.
