Square Design (Mood Boards)

Square Design Brand Identity & Logo

Brief
: The company is called Sqaure Design. A freelance web, graphic, print design studio that also offers other services such as Internet Marketing as well. I think it would be a good idea to create a professional logo or brand identity that gives the impression it's an established professional agency when in fact it's only one person.

Target Audience: My target audience would be business owners, individuals, entreprenuers. It will also include startups or small busineses that will need a online web presence and may need graphic and print design services.  I think the target audience may also compromise of art directors, creative directors, designers who are looking for a designer to help with their ongoing projects. Also people who frequent online web design galleries such as makebetterwebsites.com or foliofocus.com may be potential clients who may want work done.

Summary: The logo should be professional, clean and simple. A logo that is easy to remember and does it job which is to communicate what my business does. The logo will be mainly used for the website and branding such as business cards, letter heads and promotional materials.

  • Typography Moodboard. A concept/mood board created in Adobe Photoshop for the project Basic Logo Design. I'd seriously fogotten how much fun it is designing and this mood board just seemed to be evolving by itself.

  • Layout & Composition Moodboard. The second concept/moodboard created in Adobe Photoshop for the project Basic Logo Design. During this exercise I realised that I would like the logo to be colourful, well designed, simple and it should work well in black and white as well.

  • Colour Moodboard. The third concept/moodboard created in Adobe Photoshop for the project Basic Logo Design. I'd like the colours of the logo to represent a brand that is going somewhere, has momentum and I think these colours seem to represent that.

  • Concept Moodboard. The fourth concept/moodboard created in Adobe Photoshop for the project Basic Logo Design. I'd like the concept/design of the logo to be forward looking, pushing the boundaries of what's possible whilst still retaining it's roots.

Sketches: I found sketching my ideas to be difficult as I can't draw and I've never taken an art class, but its great. I find i'm too in my head when I sketch (it's got to be perfect, neat and look like art). Had a real breakthrough today where I just doodled, sketched and didn't care what it looked like. Tried to get all my ideas and thoughts onto paper.

More Sketches: Updated 30/01/2013

Final Comps: These are my final comps, the typography needs some work but it is more or less finished. The most difficult thing for me is selecting the appropiate typeface and trying to figure out what typeface works with the logo mark. So I've inclued that final design comps side by side with the design comps that had potential but I felt somehow missed the mark.
