Spring Pattern!

For my pattern I've decided to draw from what comes to mind when I hear the word "spring" and the Pantone colors of the year since they would work so well in a light, refreshing spring color scheme.

I've finally finished my motifs! I've decided to work with the shapes of beetles, specifically the stag beetle, along with the floral, leaf, and butterfly shapes so I can add more of a natural and unusual quality to my design.

Here's the final print!

I think it looks like what one of those really wild prints from the 1960s would look like in pastel colors. It was definitely a process getting the elements to line up perfectly in the repeats, but I'm happy with how it turned out. In a larger scale, I've discovered that the butterflies kind of make a two toned grid areound the flowers! Oh well, this is my first attempt at doing a print with this many elements, so I'm still learning. I think once I have more time I'm going to try a couple of different colorways and maybe try putting it on some garment illustrations to see how that would look.
