I recently made an illustrated recipe of Spiced Mulled Cider for the They Draw and Cook website. Ohn Mar Win's new class 'Create tall Pins From your Art' sounded like the perfect way for me to try tailoring this recipe for my Pinterest account.
Original 'They Draw and Cook' Recipe
Here is my original Spiced Mulled Cider recipe layout, you can see it works really well on my profile on They Draw and Cook, but can't really be used easily elsewhere because of the horizontal shape. It's hard to see all the details.
I started out with initial sketches and life studies before I made my illustrated recipe to the required 'They Draw and Cook' file size.
I recently started adding my logo to all the sketches and artwork that I share online as Ohn Mar advises in the class. I use the iWatermark app, it's really easy to use and I can add my logo to images on the go from my iPad or iPhone.
Spice Mulled Cider Tall Pin
My original illustration was created in Photoshop. I changed my canvas size to the 1:3 ratio that Ohn Mar recommends. Then I merged the groups in my layers panel to make the file size smaller, and the individual icons easier to move around. Making the illustration work in a portrait size was a lot easier and quicker than I imagined. The most time-consuming part was massaging the leaves around the outside into place. the main icons in the illustration I did not have to make many changes to.
Square Images for Instagram
I also created a square version of my ingredients to use as a thumbnail on my website and on Instagram.
And a version with my ingredients method that I could easily share online.
I'm really excited to see if my new image will get more pins on Pinterest! Thank you to Ohn Mar for all her help and guidance, definitely check out Ohn Mar's other classes.
