South Devon

In October of 2015, I spent a week in South Devon with my family - a location they have been visiting for 30 years. I saw this opportunity to spend a week exploring the area, walking, taking photographs and relaxing.

For this trip I was shooting with a Nikon D750 and a selection of lenses.

1) Middle of the road
We were staying at Broadmoor Farm in Malborough. From our cottage there was a quiet, leafy track which leads down to a place called Hope Cove.

2) Off the beaten track
Further down this path, you need to cut through some fields - which is why I love this part of the world, walking through farmers fields is prefectly acceptable. A few hours earlier it had poured with rain and I spotted this huge puddle, rich in colour.

3) Bird's eye view
Ten minutes later, and we're in Hope Cove. This shot is overlooking the beach and a rather impressive rock formation. The South Devon landscape is great for elevated views like this.

4) Signs of life
This time I'm in a small town called Salcombe, a very popular spot for holiday makers - especially during school half term holidays. The tide had gone out and I had spotted these 2 boys crabbing. At first I had discarded this image, but after playing around in lightroom and following some of Dan's tips, I was quite happy at how this turned out. For me, these two young lads wouldn't look out of place in an Enid Blyton novel.

5) The postcard shot
South Devon is home to a lot of quaint, picturesque towns, including this one - Salcome. With this image I wanted to portray the best aspects of this location. The green hills, blue skies, views of the estuary as well as selling a lifestyle.

I'd love to know what you guys think of these images!

Thanks, Aaron
