Smokin' meatballs

The challenge I've set out for myself for this project is to great a tasty smoked meatball. I've smoked hamburgers so I'm assuming I can smoke meatballs.

I'm going to tinker with my favourite burger recipe and see what happens!

Update: 9/22/2013 - SUCCESS!!

So smoked meatballs are kind of awesome!

This is the recipe I used. It's my favourite burger recipe but like I said, I tinkered with it.

Smokin' Balls

2 pounds ground beef
2 tablespoons of your favourite BBQ sauce (I used Meat Mitch Whomp Competition Sauce)
one small minced onion
1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
1 tablespoon granulated cane sugar
1 teaspoon hot sauce of your choice
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup oatmeal

Combined everything and formed them unto balls using my cookie scoop and placed them on an aluminmum bbq tray.

The BBQ was prepared for low indirect cooking. We used wine barrell pieces to flavour the smoke. They were smoked at about 170.

They stayed on until the meatball internal tempreture was 71 degrees celcius.

They were served along with several other BBQ delights.

As for a sauce I used some homemade Whiskey BBQ sauce I already had in the fridge.

The leftovers will be used for meatball sandwishes for dinner tomorrow!!
