Sketchbook Illustration

Sketchbook Illustration - student project

On this day I went for a walk to my local park and found lots of interesting things around... beautiful coloured berries and bare branches. It was freezing cold so I took photos of everything that interested me and put it all together later at home.

I really loved how the small tree seemed to be spreading its arms around the bench as if to hug anyone who would sit there. So I kind of exaggerated this idea in my illustration. For this 'Hero' page I also used the opportunity to practice my lettering with the parallel pen.

I began in the top left corner and thought I would paint each part somehow separately like the 'Roadmap' style, but then the last elements, the berries, the woman dressed in the colour of berries, and the gate and tower seemed to fit so nicely together that they became a whole new scene of their own. And I quite enjoyed how that happened (:

Thank you Samantha for this lovely class! I'm looking forward to trying out the collage style page once I've collected some cool material (;
