Silhouettes: Words in Human Form

The trailer is here!

In 2012 I started incorporating hand-lettering as part of my freelance graphic design services. It didn't take long for my love of the craft to grow and flourish into a lettering series called Silhouettes. After putting it out into the world, my approach to lettering has never looked the same.

The purpose of this project began as a way to challenge myself and quiet the inner perfectionist. I needed to embrace imperfection. As a result, not a single piece in the series required more than three versions: a single pencil draft, a refined pencil template and a final ink version. I want you to embrace this spirit when you approach your project!

In this class I'll walk you through my process for bringing together my two favorite mediums, photography and lettering, to help take your favorite words from simple text to a flowing emotion enhanced by shape.

We will talk about everything from the best tools to use for all levels, how to choose the best portrait/shape for your project, example shapes for practice, converting your lettering to finalize your one of a kind piece of art.

Whether you are a beginner or pro, let's create a special piece that is meaningful to you by combining photography and lettering! This is a fun project that you can do in an afternoon and use as a piece of art for you house, a gift for a loved one or just because! This project will require basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for overlaying with photography.

A book cover commission for HarperCollins, in stores May 2016.
