Shrimp Salad Circus Logo Design

I've been writing DIY and lifestyle blog called Shrimp Salad Circus for nearly five years now. It's gone through quite a few design overhauls (some I'd rather forget...), but I've finally settled into a cleaner, more muted look than I've had in the past.

I learned calligraphy through Melissa Esplin's I Still Love Calligraphy... course so that I could design my own wedding invitation suite. I ended up loving calligraphy and have been trying different styles since picking up Molly's Modern Calligraphy book, so I really want to give my blog a fun, modern new logo!

January 22: I decided to go ahead and try calligraphing this one. Sorry - didn't think to erase the pencil marks first! I'm not sure how I feel about it, and of course I had the inevitable ink blob! :D

January 22: I've started inking in and doing detail work on this design. I think I still need to find some balance with the shapes. For example, I think 1 looks too tall, but I like the overall shape of 2.

January 17: I tried to go back to the drawing board a tiny bit to incorporate Molly's suggestion of getting outside the bounding box a bit. I've been playing with flourishes to give it more shape.

January 10: This is my first very rough set of sketches to try to get a feel for shape and alignment. I think I want something a little more flowy than what I have here, so I'm going to keep playing with the layout. I'm looking for something that fits into a square or circle for the logo, so that's constraining the layout.
